Perspective
I went roller skating with one of my friends last week and he is… not good. I wouldn’t say I’m a master on skates, but I can hold my own. Him? Not so much. He falls, a lot. He was literally on the ground more than he was on his feet.
Skate skate, fall. Skate skate, fall. Lather, rinse and repeat for the entire 2 hours.
I asked him why he decided to pick this particular activity when he literally sucks at it. (Sorry, P, but ya do.) We could have done anything else, but he knew how much I needed to be on my skates. It’s where I process most of my shit. If you’ve never tried it, you should.
His response? ‘Ang, I’m gonna just keep falling down until one day, I don’t. I can’t get to that day, if I give up each time I fall on my ass today.’
Well shit.
Perspective
The hard reality of life is, all of us are going to fall. If you haven’t yet, hang on tight because, you will. We will all land on our ass at one point, and it will hurt. We absolutely can stay on the ground and decide it’s too hard to get back up. No one would blame us. Life hurts and some things are just so damn painful to navigate. Staying down is the easier path, no doubt. It’s the safe bet, but that’s not how life is meant to be lived.
‘I am going to keep falling until one day, I don’t. I can’t get to that day if I give up each time I fall on my ass today.’
PERSPECTIVE
We bubble wrap the shit out of ourselves hoping that it will absorb the impact. It doesn’t. We fall anyway. So we get back up and try again. Even when it hurts. Even when it’s hard. We keep skating. We keep loving. We keep living.
We keep falling down until one day, we don’t. We can’t see the good that’s around the corner if we don’t get up off our ass and try again.
We can’t get to our BEST day, if we choose to give up on THIS day.
Perspective is everything.
Keep skating. Keep getting up. We’ve got this.
Thank you for the reminder, P. Love your face!
Until next time,
~A
